– the service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve. In Woolton Grange Care Home, we believe in helping enrich the lives of people with dementia to ensure they are happy and fulfilled. All our staff re-train every year in dementia to keep our knowledge up to date to ensure we provide the best care. Our cooks work on alternate days preparing and providing meals to our residents 3 times a day to meet each individual’s dietary need. We spent time observing how people were treated and saw that staff spoke with people who used the service in a polite, respectful manner that encouraged decision making and independence.
Although we have only seen her room it was cosy, and she liked the furniture. Mum thinks that she is on holiday with lots of friends and lovely staff who totally look after her. We have only seen her 3 times and those were socially distanced visits in the garden. The most important thing to us as a family is that Mum feels safe and cared for which she does. The care staff are wonderful, nothing is too much trouble and if we ring to see how Mum is you do feel like the person on the other end really does know your loved one. It’s also good to see pictures and videos on Facebook playing bingo, doing crafts and singing.

Spoke to her the other day and she said she had been watching the leaves falling from trees whilst in the conservatory, such beautiful surroundings in and outside. The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. It monitors and inspects services, to make sure they are safe, effective and provide high-quality care. EAC sees itself, and this website, as one source of ‘housing options’ information and advice for older people and their families. But there are many other organisations providing valuable services, both locally and nationally.
We discussed the home with people who used the service and also their relatives. They told us that the home was 'always clean', 'nice' and they had 'every confidence in the staff and the home'. We received comments that staff were 'excellent, a great help and flexible', as well as 'respectful' to people who used the service. People felt safe and were cared for by kind and compassionate staff. People felt safe and personal belongings, including finances were looked after well.

Staff had a good understanding of the ethos of the home and quality assurance processes were in place. People and their relatives were able to complete a customer satisfaction survey. Staff told us they were clear about their roles and responsibilities.
Care Quality Commission inspection rating
A challenge we all face as we get older is to think about where we live, and how it will work for us when we’re older. If you intend to ‘stay put’ where you are, then thinking and planning ahead makes sense. Our site offers information and guidance that we hope will be of help to you. If you have a home to sell, you may be able to use the proceeds to pay the deposit on a new property and take out a ‘lifetime mortgage’ to cover the rest of the cost.
These older reports are from our old approaches to inspection, including those from before CQC was created. We will continue to monitor information we receive about the service until we return to visit as per our re-inspection programme. If we receive any concerning information we may inspect sooner.
This helped to ensure that people received a good quality service at all times. People were supported to eat and drink and maintain a balanced diet. The service monitored people’s weights and took further action if needed. Visiting health care professionals told us the care and support offered was effective.

This was entirely due to the efforts of the manager and all the staff, who allowed me to feel comfortable and relaxed within the home environment, with the added bonus of a private one to one visit with Mum. A comprehensive care plan is formulated for each resident which reflects their individual needs. All homes are fully registered with the Care Quality Commission and the local authority. You can make a complaint to the manager of the home, the registered manager will follow this through accordingly. People who used the service and family members had also made comments that the home had ‘given devoted care over many years’ and staff were ‘kind and helpful and it is more than just a job’.
The manager and staff team have made her feel at home, at first. It was very upsetting for her and her family, but the staff team have done a fantastic job, and she is now quite settled and getting good quality care. People's needs had been assessed before they moved into the home.
It is within easy reach of the Durham Heritage Coast to the North, and the North Yorkshire coast to the South. The highly committed and dedicated staff at Wheatfield Court work hard to deliver a... Relatives also commented that all issues are dealt with 'immediately, there is good, proactive communication'.
The people who we spoke with said staff always respected their privacy and dignity. They said the food was very good and they were always given a choice. People said the atmosphere was always friendly and there were plenty of activities taking place. They told us the manager was very approachable and they felt confident any concerns or complaints would be taken seriously.
